Specific questions I need to answer
-Combine the skills of describing what is on the page, analyzing how the book tries to achieve its purpose, comparing it to other sources, and expressing your own reactions
-Criteria for Grading Book Review (5 – 7 pages of content, title and reference pages separate)
First pgph: author’s full name & the complete title of book, along with a clear explanation of the author’s thesis? …cover the entire book? …conclude with an evaluation of the book?
-Organization and Aptness ~
Remain focused on the book rather than the reader’s personal reactions; avoid statements that are your personal reactions to the book, but fail to describe the work itself. Instead of “I liked it,” write “It was well expressed and contained good ideas.” …use at least five (5) outside sources.
-Accuracy
Free of misstatements of fact? [Points deducted for inaccuracy.]
-Clarity of Thought and Expression ~
Include fair and logical analysis and criticisms. All positive, all negative or artificially “balanced” comment is not desirable.
Composition
Contain fresh insights, original analyses, or alternate viewpoints. Show overall high quality. …demonstrate a fluent writing style using APA 6.0? …show good use of quotations? These may greatly enhance the overall impression made by a paper, but only if they are well supported by evidence or logic.
