I am seeking an experienced book layout designer/typesetter to prepare my completed manuscript for print.
This is a large-format (8x10) illustrated nonfiction book combining investigative writing, photography, graphic comparisons, captions, and multi-level headings. The project requires a designer experienced with photo-heavy interiors and professional typography.
Project Scope
• Target trim size: 8 x 10 inches
• Estimated final length: 85–95 pages
• Manuscript: ~17,500 words
• Images/graphics: ~130
The manuscript content is complete and line-edited by the author; no developmental editing or rewriting is required.
However, the project does include final proofreading and consistency correction during typesetting — grammar, punctuation cleanup, heading hierarchy normalization, caption formatting consistency, and style uniformity.
Responsibilities
• Interior page layout and grid design
• Typography for body text, headings, subheads, and captions
• Photo & graphic placement and sizing
• Caption formatting and figure numbering consistency
• Widow/orphan control and spacing refinement
• Typesetting consistency across chapters (fonts, margins, styles)
• Light proofreading and grammatical consistency corrections
• Preparation of final press-ready PDFs for interior
Cover Assistance
• Layout of front/back/spine using already selected artwork, photos, and endorsement quotes
• No illustration or logo design needed
Required Skills
• Strong Adobe InDesign proficiency
• Experience producing photo-heavy illustrated books
• Knowledge of professional print workflows
