SEA Chinese Heritage Book Writer
Budget: $35 – $50 USD
I have gathered a trove of family photographs, historical documents, and personal letters spanning five-plus generations of my prominent and politically influential South-East Asian Chinese family. What I need now is a writer who can weave these raw materials into a compelling, accurate, and lasting heritage book that will live both on a bookshelf and on a screen.
The collaboration will start with you shaping a strong narrative arc: developing a storyline, chapter outline, and overall scaffold that makes sense of over a century of migration, tradition, and change. Once that structure is in place, we will move on to drafting—bringing in anecdotes from various relatives, fact-checking against local archives or published histories when gaps appear, and steadily refining each chapter until the family voices sound true.
I will be your main point of contact, but you’ll occasionally interview or email other family members for memories and clarifications. Visual assets will also play a central role, so please be comfortable suggesting where images, captions, or pull-quotes can enrich the story.
Deliverables (milestone-based):
• Narrative scaffold: storyline, chapter outline, research plan
• First full manuscript draft with integrated photos, letters, and citations
• Final, proofed manuscript laid out for print (PDF ready for a printer) and formatted as an e-book (EPUB or similar)
If you have experience with oral-history interviewing, bilingual Chinese-English writing, or book design tools such as InDesign or Vellum, let me know; those skills will be invaluable as we bring this heritage project to life.
