Poetry Book Layout Formatting

Job ID: 40542015

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I’ve completed a collection of poetry and short stories and now need a designer who can turn my raw Google Docs manuscript into a clean, professional layout. My focus is strictly on formatting—the words themselves are finished—so I’m looking for someone who understands how to present both verse and prose attractively on the page.

The manuscript currently lives in Google Docs, and I have Microsoft Word on my computer, so starting in either environment is fine. I’m still undecided about the ultimate output (print-ready PDF, ePub, etc.), and I’d appreciate your guidance on the best format—or combination of formats—once you see the material.

Key deliverables
• A fully formatted master file in Microsoft Word that preserves poetry line breaks, stanza spacing, and short-story paragraphs consistently.
• A matching print-ready version (PDF) with proper trim size, margins, page numbers, headers/footers, and front/back matter (title page, table of contents, acknowledgments).
• Advice on any additional exports (ePub/Mobi) if you believe they would benefit this project.

Acceptance criteria
• Consistent typography and style throughout.
• No widows, orphans, or awkward page breaks in poems.
• Final files open flawlessly in Word and display correctly in PDF viewers.

If you’ve formatted poetry or mixed-genre manuscripts before, please share a sample so I can see how you handle varied text structures. I’m eager to collaborate and get this book looking its best.
