Mystical Illustrations for Family Story
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I have drafted a whimsical tale about the enchanted trees in our local park, with my children and grandchildren cast as the heroes. Because I’m dyslexic, the text still needs a gentle ghost-writing polish; however, the immediate focus is on creating illustrations that capture the story’s mystical atmosphere—soft light, subtle magic, and a sense of wonder on every page.
Here is how I picture our collaboration: we meet (online or in person, whichever is practical) so you can hear the story in my own words, refine the narration into clear, engaging prose, and then develop a full set of artworks ready for print. Once the words and images are final, I’ll also need help laying out the book and arranging short-run printing so each grandchild receives a beautifully bound keepsake.
Preferred illustration style: mystical—dreamy colours, imaginative shapes, almost ethereal rather than strictly realistic or cartoonish.
To decide if we are the right fit, please share past work that shows you can:
• translate narrative ideas into cohesive, child-friendly illustrations
• handle picture-book layout and print-ready files (InDesign, Affinity Publisher, or similar)
• collaborate closely with an author who thinks aloud more easily than writing
When we agree on scope, we can set clear milestones for draft text, initial sketches, final art, and print preparation. I’m excited to turn this family story into a legacy they’ll hold in their hands.
