Industry Reference Guide Design

Job ID: 39936429

Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 USD

Please find attached proposal request: I need an experienced book designer to take a 600–1,000-page technical manuscript and turn it into a polished industry reference guide. The assignment has two equally important parts:

1. Cover
• Concept and art direction that feels classic and professional—something trusted by seasoned specialists.
• Front, spine, and back laid out for offset print, plus a web thumbnail.
• I can share rough color ideas and logos; you’ll refine the palette and typography to achieve a cohesive, authoritative look.

2. Interior layout
• Full-page template system in Adobe InDesign that handles chapters, sub-heads, call-outs, tables, charts, footnotes, and an extensive index.
• Flow the entire manuscript, applying typographic hierarchy, consistent styling, and proper widows/orphans control.
• Create master pages, paragraph/character styles, TOC automation, running heads, and cross-reference links.
• Deliver print-ready PDF (CMYK, bleed, crop marks) plus the packaged InDesign file with fonts and linked graphics. If you can also generate an EPUB or Kindle version, note that in your proposal.

Audience: working professionals who expect clarity and reliability, so usability and legibility are paramount.

I’m looking for a designer who has handled large technical titles before, can iterate quickly on feedback, and is comfortable coordinating directly with our printer on final specs. If this sounds like your skill set, please share samples of comparable projects and outline your process from concept through final files.
