cousin five years before and revenge for the death of Simon de Montfort at the
battle of Evesham.

from her wimple. King’s man or not, this Simon Lowys was blundering around in things he did not
understand. That made him dangerous, and she resolved then and there that she needed to do

there were many layers to her, not least her identity. He didn’t know her but wished that he did. She
gave out the appearance of a well-to-do, comely widow, but she was so much more than that. And so

out a candle lantern in front of her.
