60s Fillmore Style Book Cover
Budget: $8 – $15 USD
Greetings, I’m Michael Welch. I’ve hired numerous designers on Upwork for many projects. I’m seeking a ‘creative’ experienced designer for 2 book covers. My information will only focus on book one.
‘Notes from an old drummer’ will be over 500 pages. It’s my memoire/discography and bibliography. You’ll create the front, back and spine.
My ‘cover’ idea/concept comes from the 60s psychedelic period of music posters from The Fillmore in San Francisco.
I’ll print and publish both books on Amazon through the KDP program.
1. My 1967 photo will be on the cover. I’ve used the idea of ‘text in the banner, I’m not interested in that. I prefer a clean image of mw/the drummer and drumset. It will need to be Photoshop background deleted.
2. I want a 60s Fillmore style font for the text. (Google ‘Fillmore Posters’ you’ll see many.
3. I want ‘the drummer-drumset’ image to be multiple colors, (?polorized layers?) not black and white, ‘like the ‘Bob Dylan” image.
4. The title ‘Notes from an old drummer’ will be dominant at the top and flow around the drummer image. Amazon is very specific about titles only, without added subtitle text.
5. My sub title will be below drummer/drumset image. (Michael welch)

6. The back will include words only, layered on top of a 60s design. (*room for the usbn) on the back.
7. The spine text can include text from the front.
8. These are details, important to this design. *But, I’m open to your ideas that can improve the concept.
9. I’m including my original 1967 photo. I’ve included my idea about removing the background. As a black and white image, I like the aged corners, frame etc. This photo will be used in the 2nd book.
10. I’m including several Fillmore poster images as examples. As mentioned, please research Fillmore posters. I want the colors to be eye catching as an original 8 1⁄2 x 11 book and thumbnail image.
11. The words/text for the back can be ‘ambiguous’ in appearance. Variable ‘opacity’ (Included)
12. The front bass drum head in my photo will include one of my ‘Quadragrip’ logos. It will be a large letter Q, with my initials MW inside. The drum brand logo ‘Ludwig’ will be replaced with the word ZimGar. That was the actual drum brand in 1967.
13. The bass drum color design can be 60s psychedelic with the Q – MW – ZimGar text included. This can be discussed as the work is in progress.
14. I’m including the main image for book number two. (My 1980 Quadragrip logo) I designed this in 1980. It was hand drawn with a quarter, nickel, dime and a ruler for straight lines. The (TM) will be deleted. The Quadragrip text above will be replaced. I’m open to reimagining this logo, but I do like the rough original hand drawn details. The cover image will be color, not black and white. (My hire will create both book covers)
15. The ‘Quadragrip’ logo may be used inside the bass drum head. ‘Minus text and TM) *** this is a recent idea / multiple designs for this will be examined.
I would like to see examples of my 1967 background deleted image. Your skills need to be demonstrated. I also need to confirm that we can communicate without issues. Though I see my ideas and design as ‘simple’ communication can become complicated.
I’ve created and produced many book projects. I’m much more specific about details for these 2 book covers.
