1950s Detective Book Cover Design
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I want a gritty, dark cover that instantly places readers in the shadow-filled alleyways of a 1950s detective story. The focal point must be a classic private eye—think trench coat, fedora, and a cigarette glowing under a lone street-lamp—rendered with a pulp-novel sensibility. Texture, heavy contrast, and period-authentic typography should work together to capture that hardboiled atmosphere.
The cityscape, femme fatale, and other tropes can appear only if they strengthen the composition; the detective himself has to command the scene. Visual references such as Saul Bass title cards, vintage dime-store paperbacks, and film-noir posters are helpful benchmarks for style and palette, but I’m open to your creative interpretation as long as the mood stays unflinchingly tough and shadowy.
Deliverables:
• Print-ready front cover, high-resolution (300 dpi) for a 6 × 9-inch paperback
• Matching ebook cover (JPEG/PNG) optimized for Kindle
• Source file in layered PSD or AI so I can adjust text later
Please keep the text editable, supply any fonts or license information you use, and ensure the final artwork is ready for upload without additional tweaking.
