Compact Smartwatch PCB Design

Budget: £20 – £250 GBP

I’m building a small, rugged smartwatch and need a complete PCB designed that fits inside a maximum watch size of 40 × 40 × 12 mm (rectangular preferred). The board must host a low-power LCD (no touchscreen) and connect to a phone or web back-end over Bluetooth. I have already settled on an ESP32 module for the core, so please plan antenna placement, matching network, and FCC-friendly routing with that in mind.

Power is critical. The battery must sit in the strap, detach easily, and still reach the board through a slim, reliable connector. I’m open to your recommendation on chemistry—whichever option best stabilises voltage and maximises run-time within the size constraints. Safeguards for charging, protection, and fuel-gauge reporting are expected.

User input will rely on four physical tact switches arranged around the bezel. They only have to capture simple numerical values, so debounce logic and clean GPIO mapping is enough; no complex gesture handling is required.

Essential deliverables
• Schematic Diagram(Altium, KiCad, or similar)
• Board layout meeting the 40 × 40 × 12 mm target, with detachable-battery connector clearly identified
• Complete BOM with part numbers and availability notes
• Gerber/ODB++ files ready for fabrication
• Basic firmware stub that boots the ESP32, scans the four buttons, drives the LCD, and advertises a BLE service

Acceptance criteria
• Board passes a design-rule check for 4-layer stack-up and meets size limit
• Power section demonstrates <50 µA sleep current in lab test
• BLE link stable at 5 m distance through strap-mounted battery
• LCD updates, and all four buttons register without bounce
