Bluetooth-Enabled Locking Phone Box
Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 USD
I want to turn my concept of a lockable iPhone box into a working hardware prototype. The unit should open like a book, formed in durable hard plastic, and close with a solid mechanical-bolt system driven by an electric actuator—the reliability of that bolt action is my top priority.
Inside the box I need:
• Dual charging: a USB-C pass-through plus an internal wireless plate
• A long-life rechargeable battery powering the actuator and electronics
• A Bluetooth module tied to an ESP32 so the box can pair with the phone, trigger Do Not Disturb, and report status to a companion PBB app
• On-board timing logic that starts the countdown as soon as the phone is detected, then releases the bolt when the preset interval expires
I will supply industrial design sketches; you’ll refine them for manufacturability, choose appropriate plastics, size the mechanical bolt, select an electric linear actuator, and lay out the PCB. Firmware on the ESP32 must manage Bluetooth LE, battery monitoring, actuator control, and a simple serial interface the mobile app can call to set or read lock-in periods.
Deliverables
1. 3-D CAD files ready for rapid prototyping (STL/STEP)
2. Schematics and PCB layout for the ESP32-based control board
3. Embedded firmware with documented source code
4. A basic iOS test app (Swift or React Native) that pairs, sets a timer, and triggers DND
5. Assembled, fully functioning prototype with instructions for use
Acceptance criteria: the box must lock securely on phone insertion, remain unusable until the countdown ends, and unlock automatically without manual intervention; Bluetooth pairing and DND activation must succeed from within the test app on an iPhone 12/13/14.
