Brain-Stimulating Headband Prototype Design

Job ID: 40059961

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

I’m developing a wearable headband that actively stimulates targeted brain regions to promote overall cognitive balance. The core goal is clear—precise, controllable stimulation rather than passive monitoring—yet I’m still weighing the most effective modality. Electrical, magnetic, or even vibration-based solutions are all on the table, so I’m keen to explore your evidence-backed recommendation before locking the architecture down.

Here is how I see the collaboration unfolding:

• Discovery & Modality Decision
We’ll start with a concise review of current neuromodulation research and a risk–benefit comparison of the three candidate methods. Your insight here will guide the final stimulation approach as well as safety parameters (current limits, pulse widths, coil geometry, or vibration frequencies as appropriate).

• Hardware & Firmware Design
Once the modality is chosen, I’ll need full schematics, a bill of materials, and embedded code that drives the stimulation pattern. Low-profile electrodes or coils must sit comfortably in a soft, adjustable band without compromising signal integrity.

• Prototype & Bench Testing
A functional prototype should verify that the selected brain areas—potentially broad rather than a single lobe—receive consistent, calibrated stimulation. You’ll document all bench tests, including waveforms or field maps, and suggest a pathway for eventual human trials.

• Documentation for Next Steps
Please package everything in a way that an industrial designer and regulatory consultant can pick up. Clear wiring diagrams, firmware source files, safe-operating guidelines, and user instructions will be key acceptance criteria.

Skills that tend to fit: bio-electronics, neuromodulation (tDCS/tACS/TENS, rTMS, vibrotactile), wearable hardware design, embedded C/C++, KiCad or Altium, and a working knowledge of FDA or CE safety standards.

If you have successfully built or tested neural stimulators before, I’d love to see a brief portfolio note. Let’s create a headband that truly balances the brain—safely, comfortably, and backed by solid engineering.
