Edit College Science Textbooks

Job ID: 40108566

Budget: $15 – $25 USD

I have several college-level Biology, Chemistry and Physics textbooks that need a careful technical edit before they move to final layout. The content is already written by subject-matter experts; what I’m looking for is a fresh set of expert eyes to polish language, verify terminology and units, flag any conceptual inconsistencies, and shape the manuscript to a clean, student-friendly style.

You will be working in Word with track-changes enabled and following the existing publisher style guide (Chicago base plus a few house preferences). I expect you to:

• correct grammar, punctuation and flow without diluting technical accuracy
• cross-check equations, figures, captions and references for consistency
• leave concise queries for anything unclear rather than silently rewriting
• supply a short style sheet noting decisions on spelling, symbols and abbreviations

Each chapter will be delivered to you as a separate DOCX file; you’ll return the edited file and style sheet for that chapter. I will review within two days and either accept or send back focused follow-ups. The schedule is flexible but I’d like to move through roughly one 12–18 page chapter every three to four days.

Strong preference for editors with prior experience in collegiate STEM publishing and a solid grasp of at least two of the three disciplines; light fact-checking is inevitable. Familiarity with MathType and figure call-outs in InDesign is a plus, though not mandatory.

If this sounds like a fit, let me know your availability and a short sample of similar work you’ve edited.
