Biography Memoir Beta Reading Needed
Budget: £10 – £20 GBP
I've written a book, somewhat by accident, and now I'm looking to publish it to raise money for charity. The project started when I discovered an ancestor of mine – a bishop from about 200 years ago – who had a biography written after he died. I've modernized the text and added my own reflections as someone with learning difficulties and past struggles with alcohol, writing against the backdrop of today's societal divisions and mental health challenges.
I have dyslexia and ADHD, so I've used AI to help with the writing process. The book will be professionally proofed by an editor (who'll be credited), and honestly, without AI this wouldn't have been possible but I have made note in the book that it's been used. It's got religious themes, though I wasn't particularly religious myself until I started this journey!
The whole thing is a bit of a cluster of ideas, but I'm quietly proud I've managed to pull it together. I've asked friends and family to read it, but I'm getting the usual "I haven't had time" or "yes, it's really good" responses – and I'm not sure if they're just being polite. Since I want to sell it online for charity, I'd like to make sure it's actually decent before I put it out there. It's around 14,000 words so not huge.
