Adding new functionality to existing build script (bash)

I currently have a build.sh file that accepts three params to build deployment packages from our AWS Lambda code. Currently the script only builds lambda functions separately without the layers. We want to augment the script to include the layers. For example the current params would be:

--name jp_axs_delta_scans --source axs_delta/jp/axs_delta_scans --type function

which builds a zip file for jp_axs_delta_scans function from git directory axs_delta/jp/axs_delta_scans

we need a bash expert to help us add functionality to add layers based on the --name supplied

--name jp_axs_delta_scans_internal --source axs_delta/jp/axs_delta_scans_internal --type function --layers base_layer,axs_delta_layer,axs_ticketing_layer

there could be between 0 and 4 layers included with a given function

I can supply the current build.sh with some comments showing what's already been added and where we need the most help.

Deliverables
a new working build.sh that has the above functionality for two or three of our existing lambda functions. we can add the remaining conditions for IF statements for the remaining when we see how this can be done.
