Senior Python Developer to join our team
Budget: €5,000 – €10,000 EUR
We are working on an ERP system designed to manage purchases and maintenance for a small fleet of tugboats spread across multiple countries. The project is entirely focused on backend development using Python, and we are looking for an experienced developer to support the development of a new module. This project is part of a larger, long-term initiative with a duration of approximately 4 years, so there may be additional opportunities in the future.
What You’ll Work On
You will start with the development of a CRUD page with 3-4 fields for managing records. This task is meant to familiarize you with the system and lay the foundation for progressively more complex backend tasks, including:
Expanding existing workflows related to permissions, profiles, and access grants, with logic tied to user roles and record statuses.
Building and optimizing additional REST API endpoints for integration with the frontend.
Implementing advanced logic for data management and retrieval based on the project's growing requirements.
Existing Framework and Tools
The backend framework is already established, using views, models, and psycopg for PostgreSQL interaction. Familiarity with this stack is required.
Authentication is handled through LDAP and Keycloak, with workflows for roles and permissions already developed. Your task will involve understanding, replicating, and expanding upon these workflows.
Development is done locally, with deployments managed through Git branches. Successful tests in the testing environment lead to releases in pre-production.
Frontend Integration
The frontend team provides:
Payloads and mock data for API integration.
Fully functional and tested endpoints, which you can leverage for smooth backend-to-frontend interactions.
What We Provide
Documentation and training: A brief training session to familiarize you with the codebase and existing workflows.
Support: A senior developer available online during Italian office hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM CET) to assist and provide code reviews.
Evaluation Phase
Before starting the collaboration, you will be required to develop a small project to assess your coding quality and approach to solving problems.
Key Details
Work scope: The focus is exclusively on backend development using Python.
Data sensitivity: The system handles non-sensitive data, simplifying security requirements.
Testing: Manual testing will be conducted by the team, as no automated tests are in place.
Performance: The current and future data volume is minimal (a few thousand records at most), with efficient queries being sufficient for performance.
What We Expect from You
Expertise in Python, with solid experience in FastAPI, Pydantic, and PostgreSQL (psycopg).
Strong backend development skills, with a focus on scalability, security, and performance.
Familiarity with API integration principles and the ability to handle progressively more complex tasks.
Independence in problem-solving and quick comprehension of existing workflows.
The collaboration is expected to last for a minimum of 2 months, requiring a daily commitment of 6-8 hours in a fully remote environment.
We are not looking for a fixed-price offer. Instead, the developer will be guaranteed work for at least 2 months, with a daily schedule of 5-6 hours. Progress will be monitored through daily check-ins to ensure alignment with the project goals and timely delivery of tasks.
