TouchDesigner Kinect Installation
Budget: ₹1,500 – ₹12,500 INR
I’m producing an event-style exhibition piece powered by a Kinect v2 (or Azure, if you prefer) and built entirely in TouchDesigner. The goal is an interactive installation where visitors see their own bodies translated in real time into generative visuals projected on a large screen. Body tracking is the sole interactive mode we need; no additional object or gesture recognition is required.
Scope
• Build a TouchDesigner network that takes the Kinect depth + skeleton data, isolates each visitor, and drives a dynamic visual scene that reacts to body position, movement speed, and proximity.
• Optimise for a continuous public showcase: the patch must auto-start, reconnect to the sensor after hot-plug, and run at a stable 60 fps on a Windows 10 machine with an RTX-series GPU.
• Provide an on-site configurable UI panel so I can tweak colour palettes, particle counts, and fade timings without diving into the network.
Deliverables
• The complete .toe project with all custom components, scripts, and assets.
• A short setup guide covering hardware wiring, Kinect drivers, and recommended GPU settings.
• One remote hand-off session (screenshare) to walk me through the patch and confirm everything meets performance targets.
Acceptance Criteria
✓ Body joints are captured reliably for guests 1.2 – 3 m from the sensor.
✓ Visual latency under 120 ms from movement to screen response.
✓ No frame drops during a 4-hour continuous stress test.
TouchDesigner 2022.x, Kinect SDK 1.4+ or Azure SDK are both acceptable; please specify your choice when you take the project so I can prep the PC accordingly.
