Help enabling an application to connect to an API with an Access Token on Azure with Microsoft Graph

We have developed our own API on a Microsoft Azure App Service (a). We have another application (b) which needs to use the API (a). Our application (b) can authenticate using a Client Secret and receive an 'access token' however when we then use the 'access token' to make a request of API (a) then we return the following message 'You do not have permission to view this directory or page.'.
Help is needed to resolve why this is not working. At the first stage we would like to give you access to our shared screen so we can walk through it with you to fix & you can guide us by telling us what needs to be accessed & changed.
