Stabilize Mac Monitor Configuration
Budget: $20 – $25 USD
My MacBook—currently reporting version “tahoe 26.4.1”—drives several external displays. Whenever I reconnect my laptop to the docker, macOS scrambles both the physical order and lose resolution on specific monitor only, and I lose window layouts every time.
I need a repeatable way to lock the arrangement so that:
• the monitors always come back in the same left-to-right order, and
• each display keeps its chosen resolution and scaling.
A programmatic fix is perfectly acceptable—Shell, AppleScript, Swift, Python + `displayplacer`, or any other tool you recommend—as long as the end result is free to run. If an already-available free utility can solve the problem just as well, I am happy to adopt that instead.
Deliverable
• Either a small script/automation package with clear usage instructions or a documented, no-cost app recommendation with setup steps that achieves the two goals above.
I’ll validate by power-cycling and waking the laptop a few times; if the layout stays put, the job is done.
