Grist-Based ERP Application Setup, Excel Migration, and Multi-Client SaaS Architecture
Budget: ₹150,000 – ₹250,000 INR
I am building a niche ERP system using Grist as the base platform. Currently, the business processes, SOPs, workflows, trackers, reports, and department systems are maintained in multiple Excel workbooks, Google Sheets, Google Drive folders, PDFs, and documents.
I need an experienced freelancer to help convert this existing Excel/Google Drive based system into a structured Grist ERP application.
This is not a normal data-entry project. The work involves understanding complex Excel workbooks, extracting business logic, mapping dependencies, designing relational tables, setting up Grist views, permissions, dashboards, and preparing the system for future multi-client subscription-based deployment.
Current Setup:
- Self-hosted Grist Community Edition running on NAS/Docker
- Python/Jupyter environment available for analysis scripts
- Excel workbooks already organized in folders
- Initial file inventory and dependency mapping CSVs created
- Goal is to eventually deploy a protected cloud-based ERP for multiple clients
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze Excel workbooks and Google Sheet dependencies
2. Convert workbook structures into Grist tables
3. Design proper relational data models in Grist
4. Create linked/reference columns, choice columns, formula columns, and dashboards
5. Build role-based views for different users such as admin, manager, executive, viewer
6. Set up Grist access rules and permission structure
7. Help design a reusable master ERP template
8. Prepare a multi-client model where each client gets a separate Grist team/site/workspace
9. Maintain clean documentation of tables, fields, workflows, and migration decisions
10. Assist with backup, deployment, and future SaaS readiness
Required Skills:
- Strong experience with Grist, Airtable, Baserow, NocoDB, or similar spreadsheet-database tools
- Strong Excel knowledge including formulas, validations, named ranges, and linked workbooks
- Understanding of relational database design
- Python experience, especially openpyxl/pandas for Excel analysis
- Docker/self-hosted app deployment experience
- Basic Linux/NAS/server management
- Good understanding of permissions, access control, and data protection
- Ability to document systems clearly
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Grist self-hosting
- Experience with Google Drive/Google Sheets API
- SaaS architecture experience
- ERP/CRM/workflow automation experience
- Experience migrating Excel-based business systems into web apps
Important:
The business logic and workbook structure are proprietary. Freelancer must be comfortable signing an NDA. Work will be done in stages using limited or sanitized data first.
Expected Deliverables:
- Clean Grist table structure
- Imported and normalized data
- Grist views and dashboards
- Access rules/permission setup
- Migration documentation
- Dependency map between Excel files, Google Sheets, Drive links, and Grist tables
- Recommendations for production deployment and multi-client setup
Ideal Freelancer:
Someone who can think like both a database architect and an Excel power user. I do not only need someone to import spreadsheets. I need someone who can understand business workflows and convert them into a protected Grist-based ERP system.
