Create Hiking Guide PDFs from spreadsheet data

Job ID: 40221271

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I want to make pdf hiking guides from data in a spreadsheet. There are 280 peaks, each with 1-5 hiking routes each. I want one pdf hiking guide for each peak that will contain information about the peak and about each of the routes including text descriptions (including the distance, difficulty, trailhead location, notes etc. points of interest, elevation profile, expected time), driving and hiking directions for each route, links to outside sites and links to documents on our web site that must stay active in the final document.

The goal is to produce a set of documents, one per each of 280 peak and also have a repeatable process for future use. Sample results are in the files.

Word mail merge can do this (with or without a macro) and would leave me with the capability to make additional reports in the future but is proving to be tricky. I’m completely open to a smarter approach: a script, add-in, template system, or any combination that gets the job done reliably on Windows. You can use whatever method you are comfortable with however.

Essential deliverables
• 280 pdf files with active links
• A working automation (macro, script, or tool of your choice) that pulls the data directly from the spreadsheet and generates the PDFs.
• A clean template or layout that presents the data and links distance in a clean report format similar to the example I have provided.
• Brief setup notes so I can rerun the process whenever the spreadsheet is updated.

If you’ve built similar data-to-PDF pipelines—whether in VBA, Python, Google Workspace, or another platform—let me know how you’d tackle this and roughly how long you’d need.
