20x20 Traditional Deck Construction
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I'm looking for a draftsman to design a 20wide x20deep deck for me. The deck's design will be a blend of wood supports and composite materials as the deck surface.
Key project specifics:
- The deck will be 16 ft in depth, fixed and 4 feet floating, the floating part will be built along(and protruding beyond) a seawall. The seawall is actually rip rap and not a traditional block type seawall.
-I believe we need at least 4 support columns and or maybe a footer along the seawall edge and another 4 back away from the water on the opposite end of the deck.
- all supports to be pressure treated 2x10 or 2x12, enought to span the 16 foot in depth.
Ideal skills and experience:
- Proven experience in deck construction, a plus.
- Skilled in working with both wood and composite materials
- Strong understanding of traditional deck design principals and maybe some dock construction (but no pilings of any kind to be a part of the design)
- Able to design a floating deck/dock (the floating part should be around 4 foot wide but does not necessarily need to be 20 foot wide. 10 to 12 foot centered should be sufficient.
The top of the deck is not expected to be more than a foot off the ground. The deck will serve as a deck and kind of a dock at the same time. I want to be able to slide kayaks and canoes from the deck and onto the deck and in and out of the water regardless of the tide. I would like to include some type of rack for the conoes and or kayaks that FROM this rack, you can slide them into and out of the water more easily. The deck will be used as a sitting area for at least 6 people with a large sized umbrella that will need base support. This deck will be built in florida so the supports should be strapped to the cement substructure. The deck will be build over what was grass. I plan on removing grass, topping dirt with some weed barrier than adding #57 stone or similar over the top.
