Structural Assessment for Porch Extension at Clark's Residence in Sunderland, MD
Budget: $25 – $50 USD
Require a Structural Engineer to assess the structural integrity of existing 2nd floor extension over a porch. Existing columns were thought to be decorative (other than being caulked to the finish porch flooring, they are not physically connected to the slab). However, investigation of existing framing (soffit removal) raises concerns that the extension is not cantilevered. This raises concern about how the existing extension is designed. Would like to determine if any or all of the existing columns can be eliminated and how to structurally support another 4' of porch roofing. We need a structural integrity assessment of existing conditions and a structural design for our project. I'll expose the entire underside of the extension so it's visible from the porch.
Project Scope:
- Assess current 2nd-floor extension's safety and stability.
- Evaluate load-bearing capacity for proposed changes.
- Provide recommendations based on assessment.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Licensed Structural Engineer
- Experience with residential load assessments & structural design
- Provide Engineer's Stamp for Permitting (we have a Draftsman employed for this project).
I have basic digital sketches/renderings available for reference.
