Title: Structural Drafter Required — Steel Mezzanine Floor (L-Shape, 90m²), Scotland (BS EN / Eurocodes)
Project Overview:

We require an experienced structural drafter to produce general arrangement and structural drawings for a new steel mezzanine floor installation within a commercial workshop premises in Scotland. The drawings will be submitted to an SER-registered structural engineer for certification and used to support a Building Warrant application to North Lanarkshire Council.

A reference fire safety layout plan and a preliminary shelving layout drawing are available and will be shared with the appointed drafter upon engagement.

Existing Building:

- Single-storey commercial workshop unit, open plan, approximately 20m x 10m footprint
- Cement blockwork walls on all four sides, no internal steel frame
- Concrete ground floor slab
- An existing mezzanine is to be demolished and removed prior to new installation
- Existing internal office partitioning to be removed at a later stage — mezzanine design must not rely on existing internal partitions for structural support

Proposed Mezzanine — Specification

Layout: Single L-shaped mezzanine deck comprising:
- One 10m x 6m leg running along the left wall
- One 10m x 3m leg running along the front wall
- The two legs meet at the corner to form a continuous L-shaped deck
- Total area: approximately 90m²

Construction:
- Steel framed throughout
- Internal columns permitted
- Mezzanine to be structurally tied into two blockwork walls (left wall and front wall)
- The front leg deck to connect to and bear onto the roof of an existing toilet block at one end
- Decking: Solid steel chequer plate or close-mesh steel flooring — must prevent small fittings and fasteners from falling through to the level below
- Edge protection: Handrails/balustrades to all open edges, compliant with Scottish Building Standards

Deck Level:
- To be determined by structural engineer/drafter to achieve a minimum 3.0m clear headroom below the deck throughout
- Workshop eaves height to be confirmed on site

Floor Loading:
- General parts, fittings, and materials storage
- Drafter to recommend appropriate UDL to BS EN 1991 (Eurocode 1) — minimum 5.0 kN/m² anticipated

Staircases

- Two staircases required, positions as indicated on reference layout drawing
- Staircase 1: Top-left corner of the L, rising from ground floor to mezzanine deck
- Staircase 2: Along the front leg, positioned clear of the toilet block entrance and front door, rising from ground floor to mezzanine deck
- Both staircases to comply with BS EN 1991 loading and Scottish Building Standards means of escape requirements

Deliverables Required

- Ground floor plan — existing building layout with proposed mezzanine footprint, staircase positions, column grid, and wall tie positions indicated
- Mezzanine floor plan — structural layout showing beam/column grid, deck extent, stair openings, and edge protection
- Minimum one longitudinal and one cross section — showing deck level, clear headroom below, stair arrangement, and connection to toilet roof
- Structural member schedule — indicative beam, column, and deck sizes
- Connection details — wall ties to blockwork and bearing connection onto toilet roof
- General arrangement notes suitable for passing to an SER-registered structural engineer for certification

Not Required

- Building Warrant application management
- Architectural drawings or interior design
- SER certification (handled separately)
- MEP/services drawings

Standards

- All drawings and design must comply with BS EN Eurocodes and Scottish Building Standards
- Drawings must be suitable for SER certification and Building Warrant submission in Scotland
- UK-based drafters preferred; international candidates with demonstrable BS EN Eurocode experience will be considered
