3D Staircase Configurator Website
Budget: £10 – £15 GBP
I’m building a customer-facing web application where visitors can configure, price and order a bespoke steel staircase without exchanging emails or drawings. The core of the project is a realtime 3D interface: customers rotate, zoom and tweak a parametric model, choose the material and finish, adjust tread & riser sizes, and select handrail or baluster styles. Every change must instantly refresh both the visual preview and the price so the quote is visible on-screen the moment the option is chosen.
Behind that front end sits a rules-based pricing engine that translates the selected variables into cost, validates them against minimum/maximum fabrication limits and, once the client approves, pushes the order straight into production. Ideally, the same parameters drive an automated drawing pipeline that outputs:
• Workshop GA and fabrication drawings (PDF or DWG) ready for our shop floor
- Within the design rules stated in Part K
• Machine-readable CAD files (e.g. DXF/STEP) mapped to our current CNC workflow
An admin dashboard should let me update material costs, surcharge percentages and default tolerances without touching code, and export order data for our accounts team.
Acceptance criteria
• Smooth, device-agnostic 3D viewer (WebGL / Three.js or comparable) with <3 s load time
• Accurate pricing within ±1 % of our existing Excel estimator across all option combinations
• Drawings and CAD files reflect every customer input and pass a sample check in AutoCAD and our CAM software
• Clean, well-commented codebase handed over in a private Git repo
If a fully automated drawing generator is not feasible in the first release, outline a phased approach so we can prioritise the configurator and pricing modules first, then bolt on CAD automation later. I’m available to share current stair models, pricing spreadsheets and sample workshop drawings the moment we kick off.
We currently have a 3 x 1.5m plasma bed that runs off DWG & DXF's, a 200t x 3m Brake press that runs off eurotooling and we have a variety of tooling, but are happy to invest in more. we also have a 3-axis CNC Mill with a usable bed size of 1100 x 500, other than that everything is analogue, Rollers, welding plants (MIG, TIG, MMA, Laser), Lathes and a smaller 100t x 1.8m brake press.
