Residential Steel Structure Analysis

Job ID: 37721020

Budget: $30 – $250 AUD

I'm seeking an experienced structural engineer who specializes in the analysis of residential structures, particularly those primarily constructed from steel. Main tasks will include:

Project Brief: Structural Engineering for a Single Span Verandah
Objective:
Secure detailed structural engineering calculations and documentation for a single span verandah, based on the design indicated in the client-provided drawing. The engineering must include a comparison with Stramit beam calculations to ensure the design meets the required strength or service specifications under South Australian wind conditions.

Verandah Specifications:

Dimensions: 5.0 meters in length by 4.0 meters in width.
Load Width: 2.0 meters.
Wind Load: The structure must be designed to comply with an N1 wind classification and accommodate wind speeds of 28 m/s.
Roof: Non-trafficable roof design.
Beam Size: The design calls for a 150mm beam size, as preferred by the client.
Deliverables:

Structural Calculations: All necessary structural calculations derived from the client's drawing, addressing the load distribution, wind resistance, and validation of the beam size.
Incorporation of Client's Drawing: The provided drawing is to be used as a reference in the engineering documentation, forming the basis for all structural calculations and conclusions.
Comparison with Stramit Beam Calculations: An explicit methodology for comparing the engineering results with Stramit’s beam calculations or similar standards, verifying that the design is adequate for the intended service and strength requirements, particularly under the wind classifications of South Australia.
Complete Documentation: Detailed documentation should be provided, outlining the engineering process and including all assumptions and their justifications.
Submission Requirements:

The engineering documentation should be submitted in a professional format, organized and ready for review by stakeholders and for the potential submission to local authorities for building permits. It must present a clear rationale for all engineering decisions and demonstrate compliance with the applicable safety and building codes.

Ideal professionals for this job would have an extensive background in structural engineering with a focus on residential steel structures. Evidence of similar previous work will be highly appreciated. Proficiency in structural engineering software tools for steel structures will be a must. High-level problem solving, effective communication skills, meticulousness, and a detail-oriented mindset are other crucial qualities to ensure success in this project.
