Outdoor Wooden Structures Design & Build
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
We are seeking a skilled and creative engineer with experience in designing wooden structures and the ability to create models and detailed DIY step-by-step plans using CAD, SketchUp, Inventor, or SolidWorks software.
The ideal candidate will be tasked with developing comprehensive guides for constructing various wooden items such as workbenches, tables, chairs, storage boxes, etc.
These plans will be used by DIY enthusiasts mainly in the US to build their projects at home, so clarity, understanding of common materials/requirements applicable in the US for such structures, also the plans outlay simplicity are crucial.

Job Workflow:
- You will receive an image of the structure along with its overall dimensions.
- Using this information, you will have to create a complete 3D model of the structure and generate a PDF with the structure’s dimensions clearly displayed (similar to what is shown on page 5 of the sample provided).
- Once the 3D model and dimensions are approved, you will develop a detailed, step-by-step assembly plan, ensuring it matches the level of detail provided in the sample.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze provided images of wooden structures and develop a similar design.
- Create detailed step-by-step construction plans, including cut/shopping lists, tool requirements, and assembly instructions.
- Ensure that the designs are feasible for DIY projects, with consideration for those who have basic to intermediate woodworking skills.
- Offer innovative solutions to simplify complex construction methods while maintaining structural integrity.
- Produce clear and easy-to-understand drawings or 3D models to assist in the building process.
- Provide estimated time and cost frames for the completion of each project phase.
- Consider safety and ergonomic design principles in each plan.
We would be pleased if you have:
- Degree in Engineering, Construction, Architecture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in woodworking and DIY project planning.
- Proficiency in CAD software or similar design tools.
- Strong understanding of structural integrity and materials.
- Excellent communication and instructional writing skills.
- Ability to translate complex construction methods into simple, actionable steps.
- A portfolio of previous work that includes similar projects.
Demonstrating your skill and creativity on the introductory designs could lead to the opportunity for more intricate project guides.
Based on performance and fit, there is potential for a transition into a permanent contract, expanding into more complex wooden structure plans and a constant workflow.
