Project Brief — Concept Design for a Compact Mixed-Use Mini Plaza (Iterative)
Overview
I’m looking to turn a compact lot into a sleek, highly efficient mini plaza that feels unmistakably Mexican—fresh, modern, and intentional. The style should be clean and minimal, with curated cultural touches (bold color moments, warm materials, tile/brick accents, greenery, and beautiful lighting). The goal is a small footprint that feels like a “destination” people naturally gather around.
Programme
The site should be planned as a small, cohesive complex with:
• A boutique laundry service hub (primary use), focused on drop-off wash & fold, with a small self-service option
• A small food / drink concept that can operate as a simple kitchen opening to an outdoor bar window (stools outside)
• One or more small retail windows/units (e.g., ice cream + a tiny essentials shop)
• A central courtyard / community seating zone that connects the uses and creates a “plaza” feeling
• A small residential unit for 1–2 occupants integrated into the complex with privacy (separate access and buffering from noise/smells)
• Outdoor garden / guest area (lightly programmed) that can support short-stay visitors (e.g., a few compact RV/van pads and shared outdoor amenities)
Although the footprint is modest, the experience should feel spacious and intuitive: clear wayfinding, smooth circulation, and a pleasant rhythm of indoor/outdoor spaces.
Key Focus
Functionality and efficiency outrank everything else. The design must prioritize:
• Pedestrian flow and intuitive circulation (no bottlenecks)
• Clear separation of customer areas vs. service/back-of-house operations
• Practical utility planning (laundry plumbing/drainage/venting; kitchen ventilation and grease management; discreet trash/storage/service access)
• Comfort and climate logic (shade, airflow, lighting, durable finishes)
• A cohesive identity that feels premium and “designed,” not improvised
Deliverables
• Scaled site plan showing circulation, entries, courtyard/seating, service zones, and outdoor guest/RV area
• Schematic floor plans for each component (laundry hub, F&B bar-window, retail windows/units, residential unit, shared restrooms if proposed)
• 3D massing and/or conceptual renderings illustrating the overall form, façade concept, courtyard vibe, and material palette
• Brief design narrative explaining layout logic, operational efficiency, sustainability/climate strategies, and the contemporary Mexican design cues

I’d like an iterative process: start with 2–3 concept layout options, then refine one chosen direction through quick feedback cycles. Clarity and practicality matter as much as aesthetics.
