Lintel Calculation Needed
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I’m cutting a 36-inch doorway through a 12-inch concrete block basement wall that currently bears two full stories. Directly above the opening sits a living-room fireplace, and that floor system is framed with joists spaced 12 inches on center. Because of the loading path through the wall, I need a structural engineer to determine the exact size, section properties, and grade of and material type recommended for a lintel lintel that will safely carry the residential loads involved. (I live in Kentucky).
What I need from you is a concise calculation package that shows all load take-offs, code references, safety factors, and the final member specification. A brief sketch or marked-up photo locating the bearing points, end-seat lengths, and any required padstones will help my mason install it correctly. If you are licensed and can provide a stamped letter or drawing for my local inspector, please let me know; otherwise an unsigned engineering report is acceptable as long as the math is clear.
