Lightweight Foldable Mobility Scooter Design
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I'm looking for an experienced product designer to develop a lightweight, foldable mobility scooter for adults with mobility issues. The goal is to create a highly portable, easy-to-use, and affordable alternative to traditional, bulky electric scooters. The ideal candidate will have expertise in designing for manufacturing, with a focus on simple, robust mechanisms and lightweight materials.
Key Requirements & Design Goals:
Target User: Elderly or disabled individuals who need a compact scooter for short-distance travel (e.g., from a car to a store).
Portability: Must be easy to fold and unfold with a simple mechanism.
Weight Limit: The final product must weigh less than 30 pounds.
Power Source: Powered by a lightweight lithium-ion battery. The battery life should be around 25 minutes of continuous use.
Cost: The bill of materials and manufacturing cost should be under $400.
Drive System: A simple, reliable drive system is required. A self-powered front wheel is a strong possibility.
Dimensions: Refer to the attached PDF for a general idea of the desired dimensions and form factor.
Deliverables:
The project deliverables should be comprehensive and ready for manufacturing. Please provide:
3D CAD Model: A complete, high-quality 3D model of the scooter assembly.
Engineering Drawings: Detailed 2D drawings for all components, including dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications.
Bill of Materials (BOM): A comprehensive list of all parts, including standard components, with estimated costs.
Renderings: High-quality 3D renderings of the final design, both folded and unfolded.
Cost Analysis Table: A detailed breakdown of estimated costs for materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
Skills Required:
Product Design
CAD Software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, etc.)
Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
Knowledge of lightweight materials (e.g., aluminum alloys, composite plastics)
Experience with battery-powered devices and mechanical mechanisms.
Timeline: 2-3 months
To Apply:
Please provide examples of previous work, particularly any experience with mobility devices, consumer electronics, or folding mechanisms. Let's create a product that makes a real difference!
