Project Engineer – Hybrid PV-T System Design

Icarus RT, Inc., a clean energy technology company based in Carlsbad, California, is seeking a Project Engineer (contract-based) to support system design and integration activities for our hybrid PV-Thermal (PV-T) platform, Quartet and Cold Solar. The role will focus on engineering documentation, system schematics, mechanical and electrical integration, and modeling deliverables for active commercial demonstration projects.

We’re looking for a proactive, technically sound engineer or designer who can work independently and collaborate with a distributed team. This is a remote, part-time contract opportunity with potential for long-term engagement based on performance and alignment.

Responsibilities
• Create high-level system schematics and diagrams for PV-Thermal integration, including fluid flow and electrical paths
• Design collector layouts, racking/mounting configurations, and mechanical integration plans
• Develop piping diagrams, pump and heat exchanger specs, and thermal storage system layouts
• Produce PV wiring diagrams, inverter connection plans, and control panel wiring
• Assist in defining control architecture, BAS/EMS interface requirements, and communication protocols (Modbus/BACnet)
• Generate performance projections for PV and thermal output using tools like PVsyst or PV*SOL
• Support documentation of installation guidelines, product datasheets, and service requirements
• Coordinate with project teams, architects, and MEP consultants to align on integration touchpoints
• Contribute to equipment specifications and long-lead item coordination

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in solar energy system design (PV, solar thermal, or hybrid systems)
• Proficiency with, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, PVsyst, PV*SOL, or similar modeling/design tools
• Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical system integration
• Familiarity with building automation systems (BAS) and communication protocols like Modbus or BACnet is a plus
• Experience preparing engineering drawings, layouts, and design documentation for commercial-scale energy projects
• Excellent communication and coordination skills; cross-functional coordination and ability to manage deliverables in a remote environment
• Bonus: Experience with UL/CE/CSA standards, installation manuals, or technical documentation
