for an existing building
someone added a second floor with true 2x12 floor joists sitting on six handmade beams (2x12x60 ft and 3 planks thick) equally spaced across the 40ft width, with 8 4x4 post under uber each 60 made up beam.
The post sit on the existing first floor (2x12 joist 12: on center covered with 2 layers of 3/4 T&G decking.
Basement floor (thin concrete) to bottom of 1st floor joists - 8ft
First floor to bottom of 2nd floor joists - 9ft
under basement floor - sand
2nd floor was used for auto parts storage
New use: art gallery
total room size 40x60
we want to cut the center out of the 2nd floor with nice banisters around the opening.
area around walls will be about 9ft
this floor will be supported by 4 60 beams one set next to outside wall and the other
about 8ft from the outside wall
These 4 beams will each be support by 3-4 posts
It is envisioned we will excavate and poor a footing for each post
each post will be made of 2 sections of steel about 9ft long welded together.
Will need US stamp in the future
