Engineer and Redesign Iron Kit Building
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I'm looking for a professional to re-stamp and re-engineer a Clearspan red iron kit building. The project may require structural modifications to meet local code requirements and minor design changes.
Key Requirements:
- Obtain Utah PE stamp for local loads
- Structural modifications if necessary for loads
- Experience with red iron structures
Engineer the framing and load path requirements for optional and potential openings, including windows, skylights, vents, and similar roof or wall penetrations.
Engineer larger rigid framed opening details (headers, jambs, curbs, and bracing) suitable for larger openings such as man doors, overhead doors that interrupt girts.
Both categories of openings shall be variable in size up to specified limits and may be located within typical wall or roof bays without predetermined locations. The design shall ensure that such openings, when added within the prescribed limits and using the provided framing details, do not compromise the building’s overall load ratings, stability, or compliance with design criteria.
The engineer may designate “keep-out zones” or restricted regions where openings are not permitted due to structural or lateral-load considerations, but otherwise shall permit such openings to be placed at will within typical wall and roof bays.
Drawings and calculations shall include language indicating that these optional openings may be added at the time of construction or at any later date without additional structural engineering, provided that the final field installation follows the engineered details and remains within the specified limits.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
- Qualified and Licensed Professional Engineer, ideally in Utah
If you are qualified by NCEES but not licensed in Utah the process is simple and the cost is:
NCEES Record Transmittal: $100
Utah DOPL Application Fee: $121
Note: Utah licenses structural engineers separately from PE, an SE would be welcome but it is not a requirement as those are only required for significant buildings like hospitals or high rises. However regardless of what your PE is in you would need to be qualified by education, experience and ability for work on this type of structure.
Current stamped loads are 92 wind 20pfs active roof no snow.
Needs 102 wind, 36pfs snow, class D seismic
Note: My jurisdiction uses the USU calculator not the ASCED for snow loads.
Additionally half of the roof will have solar, so take into account typical dead load requirements for such.
Please provide relevant experience and qualifications.
