Conceptual Floor-plan Design for Maldives Home

Job ID: 39573270

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

1. Objective
Design the best concept floor-plan for a two-storey home on a 40 ft-wide, 70 ft-deep lot in the Maldives. The layout must keep a usable front yard (street side) and back yard while meeting the room programme below. Only the master suite size is fixed; all other spaces may shift slightly for code, structure or better flow.

2. Key Requirements
Ground / First Floor
• Master bedroom 20 ft × 20 ft facing the street – non-negotiable
• En-suite bathroom 20 ft × 6 ft attached to the master bedroom
• Sitting / living room about 20 ft × 20 ft, street-facing and linked to main entry
• Kitchen about 20 ft × 16 ft (may face rear yard)
• Mini gym in a privacy-friendly zone
• Computer nook about 20 ft × 8 ft connected to the master bedroom

Upper / Second Floor
• Two bedrooms 16 ft × 12 ft each, street-facing, each with a private bath (about 8 ft × 6 ft)
• Small library or study near the stair landing
• Balcony on the front façade
• Stair access to a roof terrace

Setbacks
Aim for roughly 10 ft at the front and rear, unless you demonstrate a better code-compliant solution.

3. What You May Adjust
All rooms except the 20 × 20 master bedroom can move or change by about one to two feet to resolve structural grids, wall thickness, plumbing stacks, stair geometry or circulation.

4. Contest Deliverables
• Two JPEG or PDF concept plans (ground and upper levels) with clear internal dimensions
• Basic site plan showing front and back yards
• One street elevation or 3-D massing image to illustrate façade intent
• Short design statement (200 words max) explaining your layout logic and any dimensional tweaks
Optional: DWG/SKP/Revit files in a ZIP for judges to inspect

5. Judging Criteria
• Compliance with the mandatory 20 ft × 20 ft master bedroom and overall room list
• Quality of circulation, natural light and ventilation
• Efficient structural and plumbing alignment
• Creative yet buildable solution for Maldivian climate
• Clarity and completeness of the drawings
