Behind-Meter Power System Design
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Project Golden Eagle couples solar, a lithium-ion battery energy storage system and gas-fired reciprocating engines into one behind-the-meter plant that will offset our facility’s demand charges and provide resilient back-up power. The preliminary economic model is complete; what remains is a construction-ready electrical design that folds the three resources into a single, code-compliant package.
The generation mix is fixed—solar arrays, BESS and gas engines—as confirmed in our internal feasibility study. I already have detailed equipment specifications, protection philosophies and utility interconnection requirements; these must be reflected verbatim in the drawings and calculations you prepare. Where gaps appear, NEC 2023, IEEE 1547 and local AHJ amendments should guide the design.
Scope of work
• Produce feeder, grounding and protection single-lines that show all three assets and their point of common coupling. You can use the atatched file as a guide and needs to closely match it
• Size cables, switchgear and protective devices, integrating manufacturer-specific data from my spec sheets.
• Define control wiring and network topology so the plant SCADA can dispatch solar, battery and engines in concert.
• Deliver load-flow, short-circuit and arc-flash studies (ETAP or SKM models are acceptable).
• Generate a drawing set ready for permit submission in native AutoCAD plus searchable PDF.
Acceptance criteria
Drawings must reconcile with the provided specifications without deviations, pass a peer review for NEC and IEEE compliance, and be formatted so the utility’s interconnection engineering portal accepts them on first upload.
Microgrid & DER Integration Expertise: need a freelancer with specific experience in Distributed Energy Resource (DER) integration. They must understand protection, coordination, and synchronization of these varied power sources.
Let’s move from concept to stamped plans on a milestone schedule that we can lock in together at project start.
