Project Description
I need a custom software application designed to automate and accelerate steel structure building takeoff — including detailed quantity and weight calculations for steel columns, beams, braces, and connections — directly from 2D drawings (PDFs, CAD files) and/or BIM models.
You can combine ChatGPT with simple CAD/BIM extractors or spreadsheets.

The goal is to have a user-friendly, semi-automated to fully automated tool that:

Accurately extracts steel member dimensions, counts, and types from structural drawings or BIM files.

Calculates weights based on standard steel section properties.

Produces detailed bills of materials and weight reports per project.

Allows manual correction/verification where needed.

Supports batch processing of multiple drawings.

Includes a clean and intuitive user interface.

Runs as a desktop application installed on our computers (Windows preferred).

We require full ownership of the software source code, IP rights, and installation files.

Input Processing

Import 2D structural drawings (PDF, DWG, DXF) or BIM models (Revit, IFC, Tekla).
