Expert WebAR Developer for Image-to-Video AR Platform with QR Code Integration
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
Job Title: WebAR Developer – Full Stack (Image-to-Video AR with QR Integration)
Job Type: Freelance / Contract
Experience Level: Expert
Location: Remote
Project Overview:
We are developing a web-based Augmented Reality platform that allows users to upload a marker image and a video, which the system then transforms into a fully interactive AR experience.
Once the files are uploaded, the platform processes the marker image to enable real-time image recognition-based tracking. The uploaded video is overlaid onto the marker image and rendered directly in a mobile browser when the marker is scanned.
To make sharing seamless, the platform generates a unique QR code for each AR experience, which users can scan to instantly access the AR content without any app installation.
This system bridges media uploads and immersive WebAR experiences, allowing users to create personalized, image-triggered AR content quickly and efficiently.
Responsibilities:
• Design and implement marker-based WebAR experiences that overlay user-uploaded videos onto recognized images in real time.
• Integrate and configure WebAR frameworks such as MindAR.js or AR.js to enable reliable image tracking in mobile browsers.
• Build AR scenes that correctly attach video content to tracked images, including proper positioning, scaling, orientation, and playback control.
• Generate QR-code-accessible AR experiences that load the correct image targets and associated video assets.
• Optimize image detection speed, tracking stability, and video playback performance across iOS and Android devices.
• Handle browser-specific constraints such as camera permissions, autoplay policies, and device performance limitations.
• Test and refine AR behavior under real-world conditions, including different lighting environments and camera quality.
• Document AR setup, configuration, and usage guidelines to support maintenance and future enhancements.
Required Skills:
• Hands-on experience with WebAR frameworks such as MindAR.js, AR.js, 3XR, Zappar WebAR or 8th Wall for image recognition and video overlay.
• Strong understanding of marker-based image tracking and how to anchor video content accurately to tracked images.
• Ability to implement video overlays on marker images, ensuring correct scale, position, and orientation in real time.
• Experience optimizing AR performance in mobile browsers, including tracking stability, video playback smoothness, and responsiveness across iOS and Android.
• Knowledge of QR code integration to trigger AR experiences directly in the browser.
• Experience testing and debugging AR experiences under varying lighting, motion, and device conditions.
Preferred Skills:
• Familiarity with video streaming and performance optimization in WebAR contexts
• Experience with AR scene configuration and lifecycle management for multiple marker-video setups
• Portfolio or demos of previous WebAR projects, especially marker-based AR with video overlays
Deliverables:
• A fully web-based AR platform that allows users to upload a marker image and a video, generating an image-tracked AR experience accessible entirely through the browser.
• Automatic QR code generation for each AR experience, enabling direct access on mobile devices without any app installation.
• A fully functional, mobile-browser AR viewer that accurately recognizes marker images and overlays video content in real time.
• Technical documentation detailing deployment, system configuration, maintenance procedures, and recommendations for future scaling.
Application Requirements:
Candidates are expected to share a portfolio or live demo of relevant WebAR work, clearly outline their technical approach for implementing this platform, and include an estimated project timeline and cost breakdown.
Project Timeline:
The MVP is expected to be delivered within 3 – 4 weeks, with the full project completed in approximately 6 – 8 weeks, depending on feature complexity and feedback cycles.
Budget:
Compensation is negotiable depending on experience and work quality, with payments released upon completion of agreed project milestones.
