Consistency across recording sessions matters more than speed.

PAUSE SYSTEM — CRITICAL
Pauses are functional tools, not stylistic choices.
They exist to manage comprehension and nervous-system load.
PAUSE TYPES (USE CONSISTENTLY)

Duration: ~0.5–1 second
Purpose: emphasis
Use after short declarative or grounding statements


[pause] — COGNITIVE DIGESTION PAUSE
Duration: ~1.5–2 seconds
Purpose: understanding


Use [pause] when the listener needs time to:

Register a key clarification
This pause signals: “Take that in.”
[long pause] — REGULATORY / INTEGRATION PAUSE
Duration: ~3–4 seconds
Purpose: nervous-system settling and meaning integration


Use [long pause] when the listener needs to:

Integrate a major reframe
Feel safety after shame, fear, or relief
Close a chapter or section
This pause signals: “Nothing else is coming yet.”

SIMPLE DECISION RULE
If the listener needs to think → use [pause]
If the listener needs to settle → use [long pause]


Do not shorten long pauses because they feel awkward.
Silence is doing work.

CONTENT DISCIPLINE
Read the manuscript exactly as written
Do not summarise, condense, or improvise
Do not “smooth” language during recording
If a sentence feels awkward:

Re-record only after editorial confirmation
Every word has been chosen intentionally.

HANDLING SCIENTIFIC CONTENT
Read technical sections slowly and evenly
Do not over-emphasise scientific terms
Avoid inflection that implies doubt or uncertainty
Trust the listener’s capacity to follow when given space

Before recording:
Review the full manuscript for unfamiliar words, names, or terms
Flag all uncertain pronunciations in advance

During recording:
Do not guess pronunciations
Do not correct pronunciations on the fly
If uncertainty arises, stop and flag the line for clarification

Confirm runtime is within pacing tolerance

Confirm no visual references remain
