Discussion Paper About Music Impacting Your Life
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
MEDIA COMPONENT: Create at least a 5min audio collage using the music
you enjoy that has established meaning in your life. You will want to connect ways pieces
from the past have influenced the pieces you are using.
● Utilize youtube, iTunes, and other media to help piece together
your collage. Audacity can be used to help edit the audios into
something that flows.
● You can make a visual collage with the audio using a video
software or just the audio collage using any audio edit service that
works for you. (Audacity is free which is the one I usually
recommend)
Written Component: Reflect and Analyze these pieces. Bring together a 4-5
page paper describing your pieces and how they have meaning to you but also how,
based on the history of music learned, has affected each selection.
● Bring in the vocabulary learned from the beginning of the course.
Insert at least 5 terms to describe your songs and help analyze
each piece
● Look into specific pieces from the historical periods we discuss
throughout the course. These can be helpful with connecting
certain aspects of your pieces to components of the past.
● Some questions that can be used to help write
○ Do you see a connection between music and identity? Why
or why not?
○ Have the meaning of the pieces used changed as you
have grown?
○ Does the music we choose show any connection to how
we live our lives ?
● Remember to cite your sources for everything you use including
the music as a part of the media component
