Whistle Auto-Mute Software
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I am looking for a practical program that listens to any TV show, movie, or song while it plays and instantly mutes the audio a split-second before a whistle reaches the speakers. The goal is to let a family member with Tourette’s enjoy their usual entertainment without the trigger ever being heard.
Scope of work
The solution must monitor both streaming services (think Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, YouTube, etc.) and local media files (MP4, MKV, MP3, WAV) on Windows and MacOS. Live broadcast support is not required at this stage.
Core requirements
• Detect the acoustic signature of a whistle with near-zero latency.
• Drop or duck only the whistle portion, keeping the rest of the soundtrack intact.
• Work transparently in the background, so users can keep using their preferred player or browser.
• Simple start/stop interface plus an on-screen indicator that shows when a whistle was caught.
• Lightweight install packages for both operating systems.
Acceptance criteria
1. A compiled installer (EXE and DMG) that a non-technical user can run.
2. Real-time testing: when I play sample clips containing multiple styles of whistling, the program mutes each whistle and unmutes automatically once it has passed.
3. No noticeable desynchronization or overall volume loss to the rest of the content.
4. Source code with clear build instructions so future updates are possible.
I’m open to whichever tech stack you believe best meets these needs—DSP libraries, machine-learning models, virtual audio drivers, or browser extensions—as long as it can deliver reliable, low-latency results on both Windows and MacOS. Please outline your approach, any similar work you’ve done, and an estimated timeline for a working prototype. Together we can make everyday media safe and enjoyable again.
