Velodyne Subwoofer Repair
Budget: $10 – $200 USD
I need an expert to analyze and repair my Velodyne HGS-10 subwoofer amplifier.
Issue: No sound output.
- The problem started after I disconnected and reconnected the unit. However, please note that I hadn't been playing music recently so I may not have noticed a failure prior to disconnecting and reconnecting the unit.
- I have already checked the connections thoroughly.
Ideal Skills & Experience:
- Expertise in audio equipment repair, specifically subwoofers and amplifiers.
- Experience with troubleshooting no sound output issues.
- Knowledge of Velodyne products is a plus.
I'm a mechanical engineer by education and previously worked at the most upscale music and high end audio store in Syracuse, NY while getting my Master's degree, and believe than a good audio amp engineer could figure out the problem and repair - but of course I could be wrong ;>).
The unit is being used with a Denon AVR-S760H receiver that has two Subwoofer pre-amp level outputs (of course I only use one!). Note that I have another pre-amp in storage that I could pull out to test it. But, while there's still a remote chance, I don't believe there is any problem with the Denon Unit. Also, according to what I've found on sites such as Reddit, the amp section is the most common problem with these wonderful Velodyne Subwoofers.
Note that Velodyne, now HQ'd in Germany, referred me to a wonderful Velodyne expert in central MA who'll repair and provide a warranty. But I'm cash strapped and could afford to purchase a lesser Klipsch subwoofer for less than he wants to charge for the repair.
I'm very flexible and will be happy even if I can only isolate the problem. I'm still handy with a soldering iron! I'm reminded of the old Donald Duck cartoon where the technician explains why there's a $100 repair charge to Donald for a simple job - $1.00 for the part and $99.00 for knowing which part!!!
Please provide a your initial assessment and suggested solution. I'll be happy to pay for excellent advice.
