Shure MV6 Audiobook Tuning -- 2
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m recording an audiobook with a Shure MV6 in the corner of my bedroom studio. The space is already fairly dead, yet the mic still captures some distant street noise and can jump into the red when I raise my voice. What I need is a complete Reaper-ready processing chain that gives me warmth and depth, keeps clarity and presence in the narration, and knocks out that outside-traffic hiss without damaging the tone.
Here’s the situation:
• Current workflow is Audacity, but I want to migrate to Reaper when I finish the first audiobook because of its long-form editing tools and better render options.
• I speak anywhere from a quiet whisper to energetic character dialogue. Peaks must stay controlled while the softest passages remain audible.
• I’d like settings or a template I can drop straight into Reaper—EQ, gentle compression, a transparent gate/expander, de-esser, and any other plugs you feel are essential. Stock Reaper effects are fine; if you recommend a third-party plugin, please be sure it either has a free version or provide a clear purchase link.
• Final deliverable should include the preset file (or clearly documented settings), plus a brief walkthrough so I understand how to tweak it myself later.
I’m ready to start as soon as you can—the sooner the better—so let me know your turnaround time along with any quick questions you have about my room, interface, or gain staging. Looking forward to hearing that smooth, audiobook-friendly sound.
