Audio "textured asset" editor for three conversations conducted via payphone for an audio only podcast
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
The Job
It is a little different.
We want to attract an editor who understands that "bad" audio is actually a "textured asset," but we also need someone has the surgical skill to fix the volume imbalance.
More specifically:
> "The Department requires a technician to process three (3) audio artifacts, approximately, after all is said and done, 10 minutes each. There are two already recorded and ready, with the third being finished days after this post. These are raw interceptions of human conversation conducted via public telephony hardware. The objective is not 'polish,' but clarity within chaos."
Technical Requirements:
* Signal Extraction: The primary operator (Nic/me) is recorded at a significantly higher gain than the field subject. You must use leveling, compression, or manual gain riding to extract the subject’s voice somehow without losing the "line noise." Your task is the "magic trick": bring the Subject to the foreground and push The Operator (me) to the back without sanitizing the environment rather highlighting it..
* Preservation of ephemera: Do not "clean" the signal. Environmental artifacts—passing vehicles, bar ambiance (National Anthem), and mechanical rotary clicks—are to be treated as essential data points.
* Sequencing: Files are/should be pre-stacked. The workflow follows a rigid/boring protocol: Atmospheric Intro verbal intro overlay→ Rotary Dialing → Subject Intercept → Coin-Drop Termination → Outro.
* Fixed Fee per "Signal": Let's negotiate a price (e.g., $150 - $300 total or something similar). I have already labeled and stacked the files. Leveling and Transitioning is what I need not creative storytelling.
-Success on these initial three captures will lead to a standing 'Technician on Record' contract for future signal recoveries ie. I would like to put you on retainer for future episodes. The most difficult part of this project is until someone "gets it" they do a job, but when they "get it," they are invested. I'm willing to make substantial and elastic commitments to a growing relationship.
* Software Compatibility: You will need to be able to open WaveEditor files or at least opening raw .WAV exports of my stacks and files.
* The "Anti-Filter" Rule!" No AI-noise removal or 'Enhance Speech' tools permitted. We value the grit of the copper wire. That's my bread and butter.
