Illustrator needed for a children's book (13 illustrations, start with 1 trial illustration)
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Hello! I am looking for an illustrator for a full colour children's book with 13 spreads, due within 4 weeks.
I plan to hire a few people to start with 1 illustration to see if we are a good fit ($100), due within 5 days. If we both agree to continue after that first illustration, then we will proceed with funding the additional 12 pages afterwards ($1000 total for entire project), due within 4 weeks.
This is a unique project It's a book for children, but it is also an educational book for the parents (target audience: physicians in training). So, each illustration will require 3-4 additional details within the main drawing. These details will be explained to you in the description of each illustration. These will be described to the reader in an appendix at the back. Most of the spreads are a single scene but a couple are collages of 3 scenes.
For example, in Illustration 5, the description with extra details are:
"Evening outside the family home. Parent 1 is in the driveway biking away, wearing a helmet, and waving goodbye to the child and baby, who are in the front yard. Other parent is standing on the front porch of the house. The baby is standing up but holding on to an object or furniture for support. The child is wearing a superhero costume with a cape and looks sad."
As long as these details and requirements are captured the rest of the illustration can be left to your style and imagination.
I will provide:
- A detailed description of each illustration (includes setting & action, as well as the 3-4 additional features on each page)
- Clarification if you need more information for any of the illustrations
- The text to be placed on each page
- A description of the four main characters
You will provide:
- Initial black and white sketch for each page that we agree on (1 page to start, 12 more if we proceed with the full book)
- Up to 2 revisions per sketch (if more than 2 are needed for a sketch we can discuss additional funding)
- Final illustrations once sketches approved: 13 illustrations full colour, vector or 300 dpi, 15 inches wide x 9 inches tall PLUS 0.5 inch bleed on all four sides (final image size = 16 inches wide x 10 inches tall). (1 to start, 12 more if we proceed with the full book)
- Final illustrations to include the text I provide
- Front and back cover creation (will use an illustration from one of the inside pages but you will add the title & author names)
- 3-4 appendix pages creation (typesetting without additional illustrations)
- Two versions of the final book; the only difference in Version 2 is it is a book about "mom" not "dad" so every time "mom" or "she" appears it will be changed to "dad" or "he."
