Frosted Epoxy Resin Artwork Coating
Budget: $700 – $1,500 USD
I have a large mixed-media piece—120 × 244 cm, marouflaged paper mounted on Dibond, sealed with Lascaux fixative—that now needs its final skin. I want a thin, slightly pink-tinted layer of epoxy poured over the entire surface, then wet-sanded back to a polished, frosted-glass look. (I want to blurry my drawing on paper). After the frosted finish is achieved, I’d like a non-yellowing protective varnish sprayed or rolled on.
I can furnish a smaller piece with paper mounted on wood panel with dry pigment on it for some test.
The person needs to be based in NYC or Brooklyn as you’ll have to come work in my art studio or i’ll send my piece at yours (not further than nyc, bk, queens)
My thoughts so far
• Finish: frosted, not glossy.
• Resin: I was thinking of West System because of its clarity and predictable cure, but if you know a better formula that accepts tint beautifully and sands cleanly I’m open to it. I will pay for the material.
• Tint: soft blush of alcohol pigment that stays stable during cure.
• Varnish: whichever acrylic or polyurethane you trust most to resist yellowing over time.
What I need from you
1. Studio-grade set-up to level and dam the panel.
2. Accurate tint mix, bubble-free pour, and controlled cure.
3. Progressive sanding/polishing to the even, matte translucency I’m after.
4. Final varnish coat with uniform sheen and full edge coverage.
5. Someone who knows how to work resin on paper mounted on a surface.
Please tell me about similar resin finishes you’ve executed, the tools you’d bring (torch, vacuum, Festool sanders, etc.), and your estimated timeline from pour to final varnish. The piece is ready as soon as you are.
