Video AI Developer - Capture Physical Dice Rolls on Video
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
Project Background
As a Dungeons and Dragons player, I moved online to play weekly games during the pandemic using Virtual Table Top (VTT) apps such as Roll20 and DnDBeyond. These VTTs have digital dice rollers within the app to play the game. However, I missed the tactile feel of rolling physical dice while playing.
I found this video online of how to setup a webcam and tripod to record physical dice rolls.

But I wanted to take this idea a step further and actually integrate these dice rolls with the Roll20 app.
Project Description:
Phase 1: Use Webcam to capture real life dice rolls (6 sided die) and store results in a database. Possibly using Google's Cloud Video Intelligence API but open to other off-the-shelf apps.
Phase 2: Expand app to be able to interpret and store different types of dices (4, 8, 10, 12, 20 and 100-sided dice).
Phase 3: Capture and store multiple dice rolled (ex. rolling 2, 20-sided dice or 8, 6-sided dice)
Phase 4: Integrate the physical dice rolls into Roll20 using their API.
