My name is John Tsang from London. I am a retired teacher and former guide at the Palace of Westminster. I am also an author. Back in the 80s, I had two textbooks published by traditional publishers. However work and family commitments did not enable me to carry on writing. After I left working as a guide in 2020, I was in lockdown. It was then I had the aspiration to start writing again. So I ended up publishing a book as an indie author on amazon called 'The UK Parliament. A timeline of the evolution of Parliament and insights into the Palace of Westminster'. During the draft stages, I sent it off to a few friends for opinions etc. Being the so called expert, they enjoyed it and checked mostly my grammar and sentence construction, spelling etc. Otherwise I did all the editing. That got me on hook to do more writing! So I am in the middle of writing my first fictional space novel. I've learnt a lot since lockdown about the publishing side of things particularly as I discovered the job of self publishing. Over this time, I discovered among authors they were using beta readers. So I would like to know more of your services. What is the primary difference between what you do and myself using friends to look at my work? My novel is resolves around a 21st Century soldier who is accidently transported through time to the 22nd Century. He serves aboard a starship as a security officer which has adventures around the solar system. At some point in the story, he is assigned to find missing scientists who are lost in time. Last location is back in the 21st century six months after my MC had his time accident. I'm still in the 2nd draft and yet to be edited. My document is too raw to be sent for consideration.
