- Choose one or more films and conduct a marketing/distribution analysis (including DVD, VOD, etc.), foregrounding the ways in which different paratextual materials "frame" the text(s) in question.


- Focus on one or more types of paratext (reviews, titles, trailers, posters, making-ofs, audio commentary, etc.) and analyze what roles they play in the production and consumption of film. Situate your analysis historically and in relation to questions of authorship/stardom (branding), genre, and spectatorship.

- Focusing on at least one film company (production, distribution, or exhibition) of your choice, analyze the ways in which they portray themselves (via the corporate website, earning reports and press releases, promotional materials, etc…), and how they are, in turn, represented in the media. Pay particular attention to branding strategies, what kinds of films (and stars) the company is associated with, and the vertical/horizontal links connecting them with others in the film and media industries in general.

- Select an event (i.e., the Oscars, the Sundance Film Festival) and analyze the ways in which the organizers represent themselves and portray their event (via official website, promotional materials, etc…), and how the event, in turn, is represented and covered in the media. You should contextualize the event (i.e., give a brief summary of its history and organizational structure) and discuss what role it plays in the film industry.
