PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: According to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, the attorney-office general's and the office of the Dewan Rakyat speaker are being used to postpone the reconvening of Parliament.Attorney-General Idrus Harun said yesterday that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong must follow the Cabinet's decision on when Parliament should reconvene, after the Agong had previously stressed that it should happen "as soon as practicable."Idrus used Article 40(1) and (1A) of the Federal Constitution to say that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong must follow the Cabinet's advice "unless otherwise indicated."Idrus went on to clarify that while Article 55(1) of the Federal Constitution enabled the Agong to call for a resumption of Parliament, the emergency decree overrode this provision while the emergency was in effect.Idrus' comment, according to the PKR president, goes against the intentions of the Agong and his fellow Malay Rulers, and could lead to a constitutional crisis.According to Anwar, the Attorney General's and Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat's positions are being used to postpone Parliament.
