Responsibilities
•
Applies extensive knowledge of clinical education and training practices to develop and deliver education and training content for all levels of clinicians, primarily nurses, at the medical center
•
Mentors nurse educators and functions as a leader and information resource
•
Holds in-depth specialty knowledge within a nursing discipline
•
Leads or oversees the implementation of new programs
•
Code CARE* RN is an autonomous professional who promotes quality patient care as an expert clinician, consultant, educator, and role model to the acute inpatient areas of the Health System
•
This position is intended to reduce the need for de-escalation and utilization of security and law enforcement by actively rounding in patient care units to identify patients, families or visitors who may benefit from an early intervention/additional support
•
The Code CARE RN responds to staff requests for consultation and responds to urgent situations that require de-escalation
•
The Code CARE RN promotes the integration of mental health concepts in the nursing care of patients through the provision of nursing consultation and development of a nursing care plan which meets the mental health and behavioral needs of the patient, promotes an interdisciplinary treatment approach and ensures that support efforts are grounded in anti-racist philosophy and methodology, and are trauma informed
•
Provides crisis intervention services to patients as needed
•
Provides ongoing education to other health care providers based on identified learning needs
•
The Code CARE RN would implement established nursing interventions utilizing current clinical knowledge of psychiatric and medical illnesses
•
The Code CARE Nurse also evaluates and documents the results of these interventions for a given patient that the Code CARE team was consulted on
•
This includes taking nursing histories from patients and/or others that identify common variables affecting care, writing and evaluating nursing care plans and teaching patients and families about illness/symptom as well as providing education to the inpatient staff to better handle a situation
•
The Code CARE RN interacts with bedside staff caring for challenging patient behavior, Social Work, Consult Liaison Service, and other Medical Center personnel as needed
